Preview Your New Smile Before Treatment Begins

Digital smile design is now available at MDS! This new form of digital dentistry allows you to ‘test drive’ your future smile before the treatment even begins. Why should I see a prosthodontist?2026-05-05T20:19:39+10:00

A prosthodontist is a specialist who is registered with the Dental Board of Australia in the field of prosthodontics. They undergo a minimum of three years of full-time advanced training, allowing them to treat complex and difficult cases where your general dentist cannot. The primary roles of a prosthodontist are to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients who have lost their teeth or require advance care in oral restorative work. Their services include provision of dentures, veneers, dental implants, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges and much more.

Differences between prosthodontist and cosmetic dentist2026-05-05T20:20:05+10:00

Since “cosmetic dentistry” is not a recognised dental specialty, a “cosmetic dentist” is a layperson’s description of a general dentist who offers treatments focussed on enhancing the aesthetics of your smile. A prosthodontist is an effective cosmetic dentist possessing advanced expertise and an appropriate educational background in this field.

A prosthodontist also has the requisite skills to coordinate and administer a full mouth reconstruction involving coordination of multiple treatments and different specialties. As the title suggests, prosthodontists further specialise in creating natural and life-like prosthetic devices to replace your missing teeth.

What are dental implants?2026-05-31T23:31:11+10:00

A dental implant is a fitting that is surgically placed into the jawbone, which after a few months fuses with the bone. It essentially acts as an artificial tooth root which can hold single or multiple teeth. It is one of the best alternatives as it simulates the natural tooth environment without compromising the health of the adjacent teeth.

Can I visit MDS without a referral from my dentist?2026-05-31T23:31:11+10:00

You do not need to be referred to be treated at MDS. We welcome all patients, whether direct or referred. We are able to work closely with your general dentist, dental technician or orthodontist as a referred specialist.

How long is the dental implant process?2026-05-31T23:31:11+10:00

The implant is first surgically placed into the jaw, where it is allowed to heal for 3-6 months. Once the jaw has healed, the crown or bridge is placed using the implant as a retaining foundation. The wait is important as it allows the implant to fuse with the natural bone. No need to worry, before you leave we will fit your gap with a temporary tooth to protect it as well as avoid any discomfort between visits.

Implants can be used to replace a single missing toothmultiple missing teeth or even for a full mouth teeth replacement.

Will my crown last forever?2026-05-31T23:31:11+10:00

There are many different types of crowns, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The type of material used, the strength of your bite, your diet and/or oral hygiene may affect the longevity of your crown. Please refer to the crowns section of our website to explore different types of crowns.

Can I expect the result of my treatment to look similar to what was produced during my digital smile design session ?2026-05-31T23:31:11+10:00

You most certainly can! Results will be very identical to your digital smile that we created and tailored to you. One of the steps of the treatment is to try your new restoration and see if you like it. Only then, we proceed to complete the treatment.
